Montgomerie pulls out of Irish Open

Colin Montgomerie has pulled out of this week’s Irish Open with an Achilles injury.

The Scot has not played since the Scottish Open at the beginning of July and failed to qualify for the Open Chamionship at Sandwich for the first time in 22 years.

The Ryder Cup captain will also miss out on the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio next week and the US PGA Championship a week later.

The 48-year-old won the Irish Open in 1996, 1997 and 2001.
