Rory McIlroy struggles at Houston Open

Rory McIlroy has struggled on the opening day of the Houston Open in Texas as he looks to reclaim the number one spot from Tiger Woods in the world rankings.

The Northern Irishman holed three bogeys and a double bogey on the eighth to put him nine shots off the pace with a one-over-par 73.

American DA Points leads the field by one shot thanks to a eight-under round of 64.

Two more Americans, Cameron Tringale and John Rollins, are both on seven-under.

England's Brian Davis will start Friday on five-under, while fellow countryman Lee Westwood carded a four-under 68 following a round that included seven birdies and three bogeys.
