Rory McIlroy says that he could enter the Masters "under the radar" following Tiger Woods's return to the spotlight.

Rory McIlroy has hailed Tiger Woods's return to form as "great for golf".

The 14-time Major champion deposed the Northern Irishman at the top of the rankings following his victory in the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

It is the first time Woods has held the number one spot since 2010.

However, McIlroy believes that the situation could be a blessing in disguise ahead of the Masters.

"I didn't think I could go into the Masters under the radar," he told reporters. "I can sort of go in a little bit underneath [Woods], so in a way it's not a bad thing.

"It's great for golf to have him playing well and hopefully I can just try and keep up with him."

Before travelling to Augusta, the 23-year-old will use the Houston Open to find some form ahead of the first Major of the year.

"I think this is a good week to try and get into contention, have a chance with the Masters coming up," he added.

"I'm just really focused on this week in Houston and trying to play well here."

Woods has spent a total of 545 weeks as number one over two periods.
