Rory McIlroy scoops Players' Player of the Year award

McIlroy named Players' Player of the Year

Former world number one Rory McIlroy was named as the Players' Player of the Year at the European Tour's Players' Awards dinner last night.

The Northern Irishman picked up the accolade during the bash, where all 12 members of the winning Ryder Cup European team were reunited.

The Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award was handed to Ricardo Santos, making him the first Portuguese professional to win on home turf.

Meanwhile, a special honour was awarded to 49-year-old Miguel Angel Jimenez, who will rack up 600 European Tour appearances when he competes in the BMW PGA Championship tomorrow at Wentworth.
