McIlroy misses cut at Sawgrass

World number one Rory McIlroy has missed the cut at the Players Championship in Florida.

The Northern Irishman carded a disappointing round of 76 to leave him four-over-par at Sawgrass.

Matt Kuchar, Zach Johnson and Kevin Na all lead on eight-under, while Harris English is a shot further back.

Overnight leader Ian Poulter slipped to three-under, but Martin Laird, who was also top of the pile at the end of Thursday, posted a round of 73 to put him on six-under.

After enduring a difficult first day on the course, world number two Luke Donald edged his way up the leaderboard to three-under with Lee Westwood.
