The Nelson Mandela Championship is in danger of being axed completely after organisers were forced to postpone the tournament for a second day due to a waterlogged course.
The course in Durban has been further damaged since a thunderstorm hit the city last night following the tournament's opening round, which was also forced to be delayed.
European Tour tournament director Mikael Eriksson said: "The further overnight rain, around 30 millimetres, and a huge thunderstorm has obviously set us back by a long way now.
"Every fairway is almost completely under water now and there is no chance we will be able to play at all on Friday. The plan now is to try to start the first round at 6.30am (local time) on Saturday morning. We are hiring more pumps and more people to try to clear the water off the golf course as fast as possible."
Tour rules state that a tournament will be cancelled if at least 36 holes are unable to be completed.
