Joost Luiten says that the weather break helped him to win the Lyoness Open in Austria.

Joost Luiten has admitted that the weather break during his final round at the Lyoness Open helped him to refocus his efforts and win his second European Tour title.

The Dutchman started the day with a three-stroke lead but quickly saw that evaporate after bogeying the first hole.

After getting back on track with a birdie at the second, he went on to make 10 straight pars before reaching the 14th hole.

There he managed to hit his tee shot before play was suspended but when he returned, he added another shot to his total at the 16th to eke out a two-shot victory.

Luiten said that he did not want to stop at first, but added that the delay was probably a blessing in disguise.

"At that time, I wanted to play on but it was good to have a break because I wasn't playing really well," the 27-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"So I just had some food and tried to focus again and went out there and tried to make pars and sneak in a birdie and that's what I did."

Luiten's last victory came at the Iskandar Johor Open in November 2011.
