Lydia Ko matches Annika Sorenstam record with 29th successive under-par round

Ko matches Sorenstam record

World number one Lydia Ko has equalled Annika Sorenstam's 11-year record for most consecutive rounds under par at the ANA Inspiration in California.

The 17-year-old battled to an opening round of 71 at the first Major of the year, and matched Sorenstam's run of 29 successive rounds under par in the process.

"Today I was so busy trying to make up-and-downs, or trying to make a good two-putt or make some birdies," Ko told reporters.

"I really wasn't hitting my driver well, and here the rough can get pretty thick. When you're in that position, a record was the last thing I was thinking about."

Ko, who has won six LPGA Tour events, is bidding to win her first Major title this week.
