Dustin Johnson moves up to third in world rankings

Dustin Johnson moves to third in the golf world rankings, while Tiger Woods drops to 205th after missing the cut at the US Open.

American golfer Dustin Johnson has moved to third in the world rankings following his display at the US Open in Washington.

The 31-year-old, who took a seven-month break away from the sport due to personal reasons, ruined the chance of winning his first major title at Chambers Bay on Sunday by three-putting on the 18th hole.

Despite failing to take the crown, Johnson has climbed four places to sit behind world number one Rory McIlroy and second-ranked Jordan Spieth, who went on to win the US Open.

One-time major champion Justin Rose has moved up to fourth, while Jason Day, who suffered from vertigo during the second major of the year, has climbed two places to eighth in the world.

Former world number one Tiger Woods has dropped to 205th in the rankings after he missed the cut at the US Open following the second round, which left him 16-over par.
