Jim Furyk withdraws from Presidents Cup

Jim Furyk has been forced to pull out of the USA team for the Presidents Cup as he continues his recovery from a wrist injury.

After suffering the injury at the start of the FedEXCup playoffs, Furyk pulled out of the BMW Championship having played just six holes before scrapping plans to appear at the Tour Championship to focus on being fit for the meeting with Team International.

The problem has still not fully healed and Furyk will now serve as an assistant to American captain Jay Haas.

"There is nothing I take more pride in than representing the United States in the Presidents Cup and the Ryder Cup and I am deeply disappointed that I will have to withdraw from playing because my wrist, although improving, is still not where it needs to be at this point," the 45-year-old confirmed in a statement.

"There are few people I respect more than Jay Haas, who I partnered in The Presidents Cup in 2003 in South Africa, and I'm very grateful to accept the invitation to be part of the team as assistant captain."

JB Holmes replaces Furyk for the event in South Korea.
