JB Holmes has confirmed that he will undergo brain surgery to cure symptoms of vertigo.
The 29-year-old, who will miss the rest of the season, was diagnosed with Chiari malformations in the brain which have affected his balance since May.
"It's just such a relief to know that there's a name for what I've been going through these past few months and that I have a good chance of getting back to golf and to my regular life," the American said in a statement.
"This is a relatively low-risk surgery and only takes about an hour and a half. Best of all, there's a very high success rate in fixing the condition."
Holmes, who was part of the Ryder Cup team in 2008, is expected to have the surgery on September 1.
