European Tour appoints new chief executive

The European Tour has appointed Keith Pelley as its new chief executive.

The Canadian, who will succeed outgoing chief executive George O'Grady, said that he wants golf to remain "at the forefront" of world sport.

European Tour chairman David Williams told BBC Sport: "Throughout the interview process, it was clear Keith has an unwavering passion for golf, as well as a strong grasp of the challenges and opportunities facing not only the European Tour, but the wider game of golf as a whole."

O'Grady will take up a presidential role and will represent the Tour at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Pelley was previously the president of Rogers Media between 2010 and 2015.
