Continental Europe staged a fightback on day two of the Vivendi Seve Trophy in Paris.

Jean Van de Velde's team had begun the day 4-1 down after the previous round's fourballs, but they won three and a half points out of five on the second day's play to edge them closer to Paul McGinley's Great Britain & Ireland side.

Thomas Bjorn and Raphael Jacquelin won a hard-earned half point against Simon Dyson and Jamie Donaldson, while Miguel Angel Jimenez and Pablo Larrazabal defeated Open champion Darren Clarke and David Horsey.

Nicolas Colsaerts and Matteo Manassero beat Scott Jamieson and Ross Fisher, while Peter Hanson and Alexander Noren claimed a victory over Robert Rock and Ian Poulter.

Great Britain & Ireland's one success came courtesy of Lee Westwood and Mark Foster, who beat Anders Hansen and Francesco Molinari.
