Defending Masters champion Jordan Spieth: 'Six-under 66 one of my better rounds'

Defending Masters champion Jordan Spieth says that his first-round six-under-par 66 at Augusta National is one of his "better rounds".

Defending Masters champion Jordan Spieth has described his opening-round 66 at Augusta National as one of the 'better rounds he has ever shot'.

The 22-year-old American stormed through the course without suffering a single bogey as he made six birdies to finish six-under-par.

"It is one of better rounds I have ever shot," Spieth told Sky Sports News. "I didn't feel I had good control with my irons but I put a couple of good ones on it and the ones I did miss were in areas I was able to make par. My short game was good, I made a lot of putts in windy conditions.

"Augusta is a place I feel comfortable. I feel you need imagination and you feel like with rich history here it excites you. I was able to settle down quicker than in past years."

Spieth is looking to become the fourth player - behind Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods - to successfully defend a Masters title.
