Peter Hanson believes that his failure to adapt to the speed of the greens in Augusta cost him the chance of winning the Masters.

The Swede began the final day of play with a one-shot advantage on the rest of the field.

However, while playing in the final group alongside Phil Mickelson, Hanson saw his challenge for the famous green jacket slide away.

"It was a pretty tough day for us. Both me and Phil didn't play great," said Hanson.

"I got off to a pretty bad start with two early bogeys and didn't make a lot of putts.

"I was really struggling with the speed on the greens. They were a little bit quicker than yesterday and I kind of adjusted to that and got a little defensive with the putter."

Hanson ended the tournament with a share third spot.
