Poulter praises McIlroy's contribution

Ian Poulter has hailed the performance that his European teammate Rory McIlroy produced during this afternoon's Ryder Cup singles at Gleneagles.

World number one McIlroy was the first of his team to put a point on the board when he overcame Rickie Fowler 5&4, which sent Europe on their way to retaining the trophy.

Speaking after he had completed his match with Webb Simpson, which ended all-square, Poulter was full of praise for McIlroy.

"The way that Rory did it today was enormously impressive. He pressed it home all the way from the start. There weren't enough of big moments from me this week, but it is not about the players it is about the team," he told Sky Sports News.

Europe have now won eight of the last 10 tournaments.
