Paul McGinley backs Graeme McDowell, Victor Dubuisson Wales Open absence

Paul McGinley gives his full backing to Graeme McDowell and Victor Dubuisson after the pair announced that they will not take part in the Wales Open this week.

European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley has insisted that he has "no problem" with Victor Dubuisson and Graeme McDowell sitting out the Wales Open this week.

2010 US Open winner McDowell has not competed since missing the cut a fortnight ago in the BMW Championship, and the 35-year-old has now opted to head straight to Scotland ahead of this year's showdown against USA at Gleneagles.

Dubuisson will also miss the event at Celtic Manor, but McGinley has full faith in the duo.

"I spoke to Graeme. There are reasons why he didn't play - his wife has just had a baby," McGinley told reporters. "He's disappointed he's not playing here but he's coming over on Friday.

"Vic is Vic and he decided to say at a very late stage he would prepare better in France. He's a guy who disappears and then comes out of nowhere and plays well in a tournament. I've no problem with him having an extended period off. I know he's really keyed up for next week."

The Ryder Cup gets underway a week on Friday.
