Darren Clarke: 'Steven Gerrard could motivate Europe Ryder Cup team'

Europe Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke has said that he might ask Steven Gerrard to motivate the team next year.

Sir Alex Ferguson gave a motivational talk to the team last September, and Clarke, a Liverpool season-ticket holder, is considering using Gerrard in a similar capacity.

"[2014 captain] Paul McGinley obviously got a lot of help and advice from a lot of different people who have been in that position of managing people and looking after people and I will be the same," Clarke told The Mirror.

"There are a few people that I am thinking about.

"Steven is a real legend. If I were to do something like that, he would be someone I would consider."

Gerrard will join Los Angeles Galaxy in the summer, and will be in America when Europe travel to Minnesota in September 2016.
