Stephen Gallacher: Darren Clarke was "obvious choice" for Ryder Cup captaincy

Gallacher: Clarke was "obvious choice"

Stephen Gallacher has given his backing to the selection of Darren Clarke as Europe's captain for the 2016 Ryder Cup.

The 40-year-old, who was picked as a wildcard by Paul McGinley for the 2014 edition, is adamant that Clarke deserved the role over Miguel Angel Jiminez and Thomas Bjorn.

"I thought it was an obvious choice," Gallacher told BBC Scotland.

"Taking nothing away from Miguel, I thought he was a great candidate and Thomas as well, but I think Darren's credentials were just that little bit higher, especially in America."

The 2016 Ryder Cup will take place at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, with Davis Love III widely expected to be named captain of the USA side.
