Kevin Magnussen admits talks with Renault rivals

Kevin Magnussen admits that he has been in contact with other teams because Renault is yet to sign him up for the 2017 season.

Kevin Magnussen has admitted that he has been in contact with other teams because Renault are yet to sign him up for the 2017 season.

After the McLaren experience, the Dane returned to the grid this year with the new works Renault team, but the French outfit are believed to be toying with an all-new lineup for 2017 featuring Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez.

When asked if he has any other options, Magnussen told Ekstra Bladet: "I think other seats will be available if I don't get this one, but that's not where my focus is.

"I will wait a little longer on what is happening here."

Asked if he has had any talks with other teams, Magnussen admitted: "Yes, I have."

For now, however, he said that his focus is on ensuring his performances are top notch in all of the remaining races this year.

"Something I've learned in Formula 1 is that people in the paddock have very short memories," said the 23-year-old.

"If you have a really good run, suddenly you're the best in the world, but if not, then you are on the way out because you're not good enough. In F1, everything changes so quickly."

The championship resumes on Sunday with the Belgian Grand Prix.
