Sky Deutschland boycotts Saudi GP over LGBT

Sky Deutschland, Germany's Formula 1 broadcaster, has announced it will not cover next weekend's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on-site.

According to Dutch outlet Formule 1, the decision reflects solidarity with former F1 driver and Sky Deutschland commentator Ralf Schumacher, who publicly came out as gay in 2024.

Sky's British and Italian teams, however, will continue to report directly from Jeddah, while Sky Deutschland opts to broadcast from a studio in Europe.

Saudi Arabia's legal and cultural stance remains deeply restrictive towards LGBT individuals, with same-sex relationships outlawed and potentially punishable by imprisonment or, under certain Sharia interpretations, death.
