Schumacher signs Stewart's helmet for charity

Michael Schumacher has left his initials on a vintage Formula 1 helmet belonging to Sir Jackie Stewart.

The seven-time world champion, unseen publicly for nearly 12 years since a severe skiing accident left him with brain injuries, contributed to a special cause. Stewart, 85, sought signatures from all living F1 world champions on one of his old helmets for a dementia charity auction, and Schumacher's wife, Corinna, made it happen.

"According to our information, it was important to Corinna because all the other living world champions had signed," Bild newspaper reported.

Stewart told Britain's Daily Mail that Corinna guided the hand of 56-year-old Schumacher to inscribe a simple 'MS'—a stark contrast to his once more-elaborate autograph. "It is wonderful that Michael could sign the helmet in this worthy cause," the three-time champion said.

"His wife helped him, and it completed the set of every single champion still with us."
