Inoue blasts F2 quality, says series full of ‘drivers like me’

Former Formula 1 driver Taki Inoue has delivered a scathing assessment of today’s Formula 2 field.

Reacting online to video clips of the messy Monza F2 race last weekend, the Japanese - who has built a cult following by poking fun at his own short-lived F1 career - drew an unflattering comparison. "Formula 2 has been overcrowded with drivers like Taki Inoue in recent years," the 62-year-old posted.

"I'm convinced that it's because of the increased budgets - teams are now giving preference to drivers with financial backing rather than real talent." His remarks come as the 2025 F2 season reaches a critical stage, with the championship battle still open.

Title contenders Leonardo Fornaroli, Luke Browning, Richard Verschoor and Jak Crawford remain locked in a close fight with three rounds left on the calendar.
