FIA chief: Michael Schumacher "still fighting" two years on from accident

Jean Todt provides an update on Michael Schumacher's condition, revealing that the ex-Formula 1 driver is "still fighting" two years on from his skiing accident.

FIA president Jean Todt has revealed that Michael Schumacher is "still fighting" nearly two years after suffering severe head injuries.

The seven-time world champion is continuing rehabilitation at home, having initially spent six months in an induced coma following the December 2013 skiing accident.

Todt, who was team boss at Ferrari during Schumacher's time there, says that Lewis Hamilton's world title triumph last week reminds him of the German's own achievements on the track.

"It was interesting last week after Lewis was world champion for the third time, you saw the figures," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"I was very proud of what Michael did and sometimes you tend to forget what he did. I see Michael very often and Michael is still fighting. His family is very close to me. We must keep him fighting with the family."

It has previously been reported that it is costing the family around £100,000 a week to care for Schumacher.
