Maria de Villota given permission to drive

Former Formula 1 test driver Maria de Villota is told by doctors that she can start driving again.

Former Formula 1 test driver Maria de Villota has been given permission to start driving again.

The Spaniard lost her right eye and suffered serious head and facial injuries in July after she crashed during testing for Marussia in Cambrigdeshire.

"Last week [doctors] gave me permission to return to driving," De Villota, 33, is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"The distances I can already calculate quite well and it feels like nothing ever happened."

De Villota's accident took place on her fourth drive in a Formula 1 car.
