Bahrain's Crown Prince insists that Formula One is safe to return to the Gulf state.

Bahrain's Crown Prince has insisted that the Gulf state will host a Formula One Grand Prix in 2012 after the 2011 race was cancelled due to civil unrest.

The FIA has set aside a date in next year's calendar for the race on April 22.

The Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa said it was safe to bring motorsport's premier event back to Bahrain: "There are certainly things that happened in our country [which] nobody is proud of.

"Just like any other country that has faced troubles in the past, we will learn and move on."

Bahrain first hosted an F1 weekend in 2004.
