F1 agrees Singapore contract extension

Formula 1 has agreed terms with Singapore to extend the country's grand prix contract for another five years.

The Singapore Grand Prix was resurrected as part of the F1 calender in 2008, providing the championship with its first ever night race.

The unique nature of the race has led to it becoming one of the most-anticipated races of the season, and F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone expressed his delight at securing the circuit for another five years.

"I'm happy that this is out of the way because Singapore has been good to F1 and the night race has also been equally good for Singapore," he said.

Fernando Alonso has won the Singapore Grand Prix twice since it was re-introduced, in 2008 and 2010, while Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel have picked up one win apiece.
