Guenther Steiner is set to return to top-level motorsport, with multiple reports confirming his expected takeover of the Tech3 MotoGP team.
The former Haas F1 boss, 60, will lead the operation with financial backing from U.S. investment group Apex, which manages portfolios for several high-profile athletes including Lando Norris.
The deal, believed to be worth over 20 million euros, is said to be in its final stages. Tech3 founder Herve Poncharal had previously confirmed talks were ongoing: “It could be to come as a shareholder, as a partner, but it could also be to buy the whole team.”
The current plan allows for a phased transition with no immediate changes to the team’s structure or rider lineup. Both Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales remain under contract through 2026.
Poncharal has praised Steiner’s approach, calling him “a very straightforward person and very nice person to eventually work with,” and confirmed that several parties had expressed interest in the team’s long-term future.
Steiner has kept his F1 profile high with broadcast roles since being sacked by Haas. His expected move to MotoGP now marks one of the first significant management shifts since Liberty Media took control of the category.
No formal announcement has been made, but Steiner is likely to attend further rounds this season as the transition progresses.
