Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel closes the gap on Lewis Hamilton to 17 points thanks to a dominant victory at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel has won the Belgian Grand Prix to close the gap on championship leader Lewis Hamilton to 17 points.

Vettel overtook Hamilton on the opening lap and saw the race through in first place to revive the championship in the first race back following its summer break.

The manoeuvre was pulled off shortly before a safety car was deployed following a crash involving Fernando Alonso, Nico Hulkenberg and Charles Leclerc, with the German ramming Alonso to cause a mass pile-up.

All three drivers were unhurt, but none of the trio could complete a race that was dominated by Vettel from that first corner onwards.

Vettel and Hamilton were well clear at that point, going on to finish 31 and 20 seconds ahead of third-placed Max Verstappen respectively.

Hamilton's Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas claimed fourth spot, meanwhile, and Force India duo Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon were also in the top six.
