Hamilton secures Bahrain pole

Lewis Hamilton will be on pole for the Bahrain Grand Prix after qualifying ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

Reigning champion Hamilton, who achieved his fourth consecutive pole position, secured first after a 1:32.571 lap - over half a second faster than Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg - who will start third.

Kimi Raikonnen came fourth to ensure that Mercedes and Ferrari occupy the front two rows.

Elsewhere, McLaren's Jenson Button broke down in Q1, meaning that he will start tomorrow's race from last place.

Fernando Alonso made it through to Q2 for the first time this season and will begin the race in 14th position.

Hamilton currently leads the driver's standings with 68 points, 13 ahead of Vettel.
