Wrexham transfer news: 'Sensational bid' made to try to sign former Manchester United playmaker

Wrexham make 'sensational bid' to try to sign former Man United playmaker

Wrexham have reportedly made an attempt to sign former Manchester United playmaker Christian Eriksen in what would be their biggest transfer under their Hollywood owners.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have bankrolled an incredible rise from the National League to the Championship in three successive seasons.

Despite a considerable step up in quality, the aim is now Premier League football with more notable names having arrived at the Racecourse Ground.

However, despite the arrivals of the likes of Wales goalkeeper Danny Ward and New Zealand left-back Liberato Cacace in a club-record deal, there is a craving for more flair.

According to The Mirror, Wrexham have incredibly made a bid to try to sign Denmark international Eriksen.

Wrexham chasing Christian Eriksen

The report suggests that Wrexham have already made an attempt to sign the 33-year-old, who is available on a free transfer.

Although he made 19 starts and 16 substitute outings in all competitions last season, the midfielder was never viewed as first choice by Ruben Amorim.

Therefore, his exit as a free agent was planned months in advance and his agent has been assessing the veteran's options.

As per the same report, Eriksen is said to have rejected the chance to move to the Welsh side, despite being 'impressed' with their proposal.

Eriksen allegedly has offers on the table from the United States, Saudi Pro League, Brazil and Turkey, while other European teams may also enter the fray in due course.

A statement of intent from Wrexham

Even though Wrexham have seemingly failed to sign Eriksen, even approaching the former Premier League star is a considerable statement of intent.

Players such as Lewis O'Brien and Josh Windass have been signed from Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday this week and are high-profile additions in their own right.

That said, it seems clear that Wrexham's owners want to make the kind of signing that will enhance their reputation both on and off the pitch.
