Chester joins Villa from West Brom

James Chester has completed his move from West Bromwich Albion to Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old only joined the Baggies from Hull City last summer, but made just nine starts for the club last season.

Having been deemed surplus to requirements at The Hawthorns, Chester has now moved to their Midlands neighbours on a four-year deal that will keep him at the newly-relegated Championship outfit until 2020.

"It's a good deal for the club and a good deal for James," Baggies boss Tony Pulis told the club's official website.

"He had a fantastic time at the Euros and he obviously wanted to play first team football on a regular basis. We had a man-to-man chat about things and this deal suits everyone.

"We wish him well. James is a fantastic lad and a super professional."

Villa have lost their opening two matches of the 2016-17 season, including suffering an early elimination from the EFL Cup.
