Wellington Phoenix, Melbourne City play out goalless draw

The A-League match between the Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne City ends in a goalless draw as neither team can break the deadlock at the Hutt Recreational Ground.

The Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne City played out a goalless draw in their A-League clash at the Hutt Recreational Ground.

The visitors started the game well as Josh Kennedy unleashed an effort from the edge of the box, which took a huge deflection to cause problems for Glen Moss, but Manny Muscat was on hand to clear the danger from the keeper's initial save.

Moss made an outstanding save to keep the scores level as he somehow kept Connor Chapman's strike out with his legs, while on the rebound Patrick Kisnorbo could only boot the ball over the bar.

The Phoenix hit back with a good chance when Roy Krishna raided down the left and tried to pick out Michael McGlinchey at the back post, but the cross was just out of the forward's reach.

In the second half, both teams struggled to carve out any clear-cut opportunities. Roly Bonevacia nearly created an opening from a free kick for Wellington, but Michael Boxall put his header wide of the post.

Minutes later the Phoenix pushed forward again and Bonevacia put a dangerous cross into the penalty area, only to see McGlinchey fail to guide his header on target.

Both teams made strides to win the game in the dying minutes as Krishna raided into the box but dragged his shot wide of the post, while at the other end Aaron Mooy saw his effort saved by Moss as the match ended all square.
