Scottish L1 Roundup: Forfar keep noses in front

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday's Scottish League One action, where Forfar beat Stenhousemuir to keep their narrow advantage at the top of the table.

Two points separate the top four sides in Scotland's League One, with Forfar Athletic keeping their noses out in front after another win this afternoon.

The Sky Blues opened the scoring against Stenhousemuir after ten minutes through Michael Dunlop and doubled their advantage after Stephen Husband converted with 20 minutes remaining.

Dunfermline Athletic sit second after a 4-2 victory over Ayr United, and Stranraer saw off Greenock Morton, leaving all three clubs on 27 points and breathing down Forfar's necks.

Dunfermline's six-goal thriller was the game of the day, a back-and-forth affair with Andrew Stirling and Allan Smith striking a double blow for the home side on 19 and 22 minutes respectively, before Scott McLaughlin brought United back into it at 2-1 five minutes later.

A fourth goal in less than half an hour went to the home side as Shaun Byrne restored their two-goal advantage. The goalscoring action resumed not long after the restart, with Alan Forrest dragging Ayr back into the game on 56 minutes, only for Smith to cancel it out less than a minute later.

Elsewhere, Peterhead edged out Stirling Albion, and Airdrieonians played out a 1-1 draw with Brechin City.

Results in full: Brechin 1-1 Airdrieonians, Dunfermline 4-2 Ayr, Stenhousemuir 0-2 Forfar, Stirling 2-3 Peterhead, Stranraer 2-0 Morton
