Stoke City have started their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 win at Swiss side FC Sion.
The winner arrived seven minutes before half time as Matthew Etherington converted from the penalty spot.
Etherington was joined by Peter Crouch, Wilson Palacios and Matthew Upson in the Potters starting lineup, with Cameron Jerome, Jermaine Pennant and Robert Huth being brought off the bench by manager Tony Pulis.
Stoke continue their pre-season preparations with a week-long visit to the USA on Tuesday.
