Tony Pulis criticises referee Lee Probert after Stoke's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Carling Cup.

Tony Pulis was critical of the performance of referee Lee Probert following Stoke's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium.

Stoke lost out in the Carling Cup fourth round and Stoke manager Pulis felt that several decisions went against his side.

"It's got to be even stevens and tonight we don't think it was even stevens in terms of some of the decisions," Pulis told BBC Sport.

"You can't have some rules in one box and different rules in the other box."

During the match, Jonathan Walters had a goal disallowed for a push and Peter Crouch was denied a penalty.

Pulis suggested that the match wasn't the first time that Probert's decision had cost them.

"We have had Lee a few times now and had three goals disallowed," Pulis added.

"One at Aston Villa a couple of years ago, a great goal by Tuncay against Everton last year, and tonight it was a perfectly good goal."

Stoke return to Premier League action on Monday night when they host Newcastle.
