Tottenham Hotspur close in on a deal for teenage Norwich City goalkeeper Dylan Thompson, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly working on a deal to sign talented goalkeeper Dylan Thompson from Norwich City.

Lilywhites boss Ange Postecoglou oversaw a significant change in the shot-stopping department this summer, overseeing the arrival of Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli in a £17.2m deal.

The Italian was immediately thrust into the starting XI as a successor to the long-serving Hugo Lloris, who has been ostracised from the Tottenham ranks after 11 years of service to the North London club.

Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman are also vying for minutes under Postecoglou, although the latter has recently spent time on the sidelines after undergoing an ankle operation.

Despite already boasting a quintet of senior goalkeepers, The Sun claims that Spurs are now set to seal a move for Thompson, who has recently been training with the North London giants.

The report claims that the goalkeeper has turned down the chance to pen fresh terms at Carrow Road, and Tottenham are now hopeful of agreeing financial terms with the Canaries.

With Thompson being a long-serving member of Norwich's academy, the Championship side are well-placed to demand compensation, and Tottenham are supposedly willing to bow to their demands.

Rather than being promoted straight into the first team, Thompson would be expected to ply his trade in the club's academy setup, but the Lilywhites have high hopes for the future with the Canaries man in between the sticks.

Having experienced a major decline in form last season with four errors directly leading to a goal in the Premier League - more than any other player - Lloris's exit in the summer was seen as a formality.

The 36-year-old spoke of his desire to seek out a new challenge, and he was left out of Spurs' pre-season tour squad in order to explore transfer opportunities before the expiration of his deal in 2024.

However, in spite of interest from Saudi Arabia and rumours of a return to boyhood club Nice, Lloris remains on the books in North London and was included in their Premier League squad for the 2023-24 season.

The former Lyon man is yet to play a minute of competitive football for the Lilywhites this season, though, with Vicario keeping three clean sheets in his opening eight matches for Postecoglou's team.

The most recent of those shut-outs came in Saturday's 1-0 win over Luton Town, which moved Spurs to the top of the Premier League table with 20 points from their opening eight matches.
