Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho insists that there is a route back into the first team for Dele Alli.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has said that he had "a good conversation" with Dele Alli on Tuesday after the attacker failed to secure a move away from the club in January.

The England international has only played 74 minutes of Premier League football during the 2020-21 campaign, having fallen down the pecking order at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 24-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in January, but Spurs were not prepared to let him leave after failing to secure a replacement.

Mourinho has insisted that there is a route back into the first team for the former MK Dons youngster, who is currently battling to overcome a tendon issue.

"He needs to recover form his injury, he needs to be back to training and have a fresh start. Because in the last few weeks he couldn't even train. So that's the most important thing," Mourinho told reporters.

"I had a good conversation with him yesterday. We spoke around this question you asked me and we found very common ground. It's an important period of the season for the team and for him also. We need him. We need a good Dele Alli and we're just waiting for him to be back to normality and training with the team."

Alli has scored twice and provided two assists in 12 appearances for Spurs this term.
