Mauricio Pochettino backs "unbelievable" Erik Lamela to shine

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino hails the "unbelievable" talents of Erik Lamela following his brace in the 3-2 win over Toronto.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has described Erik Lamela as an "unbeliveable player" and is confident that the Argentine can shine this season.

The 22-year-old helped Pochettino register his first win as Spurs boss by bagging a brace in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Toronto last night.

In contrast to his pre-season exploits, Lamela endured an indifferent start to life in England following a £30m move from Roma, making just three Premier League starts last term.

"We expect a lot from him, he's an unbelievable player," Pochettino told reporters. "He needs to show us that he deserves to play, but at the moment we are happy with his performance."

Pochettino's side kick off the new Premier League campaign with a London derby against West Ham United at Upton Park on August 16.
