Report: Sunderland want Matt Besler

Sunderland are reportedly closing on a £3m move for Sporting Kansas City centre-back Matt Besler.

The defender has attracted the interest of a number of European clubs following a series of impressive performances for USA at this summer's World Cup.

According to the Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats have beaten Fulham to the signing of Besler, who is expected to jet in for talks this week.

The 27-year-old has been with his current club since 2009.
