Oriol Romeu: 'Southampton must start faster'

Midfielder Oriol Romeu says that Southampton must start games faster if they are to make any progress up the Premier League table.

Midfielder Oriol Romeu has suggested that Southampton's performances are being undermined by their slow starts to games in the Premier League.

The Saints have picked up just one point from their first two fixtures in the top flight, with a goalless draw at home to Burnley being followed by a 2-1 defeat at Everton.

However, Romeu has indicated that there are positives to take from the displays which Mark Hughes's side have produced since the start of the campaign.

Romeu told the Southern Daily Echo: "We need to start games better because last week luckily was 0-0 but this week we conceded a couple of goals. We cannot have these differences between parts of the game because that is killing us."

Southampton are next in action when they host Leicester City at St Mary's on Saturday afternoon.
