Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino admits that his team "are upset" after conceding late to draw in Sunday's Premier League clash with Arsenal.

Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino has admitted that his team "are upset" after conceding late in Sunday's Premier League clash with Arsenal at St Mary's.

Charlie Austin had sent Southampton into an early lead on home soil, but the Saints were denied all three points as Olivier Giroud came off the bench to equalise for Arsenal in the 88th minute.

Pellegrino has claimed that his team "controlled the game" against the Gunners, and were ultimately left frustrated after throwing away the lead in the final stages of the contest.

"When you play against Arsenal you need to be 100% excellent at almost everything," Pellegrino told BBC Sport. "We didn't control the ball much but we controlled the game.

"We had to reduce the space because they have quality in key areas, we competed well but it's a pity we conceded at the end. We are upset about that but it's part of football. Against Arsenal, in one action, everything can change."

Southampton have collected 18 points from their 16 matches this season, which has left them in 11th position in the Premier League table.
