Pelle: 'Points more important than goals'

Southampton striker Graziano Pelle has admitted that getting on the scoresheet means very little to him if his side fail to win matches.

The Italian notched his first goal in six games for the Saints in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United last week, but he has conceded that he would have rather had the three points than the strike against the Red Devils.

Pelle told the club's official website: "For me it's important personally to get to that target already, but I'm more frustrated when the team can't win.

"Of course it is not enough to score then at the end we lose the game. I would prefer to not score last time and somebody else did and then we win and have the three points. We're a team and we will try to reach something nice, something important. In this group there's nobody selfish. Everyone wants to do the best for the club, it's true.

"I'm happy. I'm not worried about this group, nobody likes to lose and when we lose we don't like it. That's the most important, next time we are going to win."

Pelle has scored 10 goals for Ronald Koeman's men in all competitions this season.
