Woking vs. Solihull - prediction, team news, lineups

Woking play host to Solihull Moors on Wednesday night with the opportunity to extend the breathing space between themselves and the relegation zone.

At a time when the home side sit in 16th position in the National League table, Solihull are 11th are a dismal run of form.

Match preview

Having seen Andy Whing depart for Barrow, Solihull would have been hopeful that the appointment of Matt Taylor would give them the fresh start that they perhaps needed.

Instead, the ex-Wealdstone boss is still searching for his first notable win, his only victory in five games coming against Hednesford Town in a Birmingham Senior Cup tie last week.

The only point that Taylor has on the board from four National League fixtures ironically came via a 1-1 draw at his former employers.

Defeats have been posted against Halifax Town, Oldham Athletic and Barnet, some context required with all three teams sitting in the top six.

That said, Solihull have now lost five of their last six games in the National League, sitting seven points adrift of the playoffs having played more games than several of the teams above them.

As for Woking, they have gone under the radar as one of the most improved sides in the fifth tier of English football, losing just once in nine matches.

With that coming at second-placed York City, Neal Ardley can be delighted with how his side have performed since his arrival in December.

A total of six wins and five draws have come from his other 11 games in charge, Woking also in the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy.

Now sitting six points clear of the relegation zone, Ardley will hope that Woking can kick on during the run-in, the next stop on their schedule being a fixture against a club that he managed between 2021 and 2023.

Team News

Inih Effiong netted from the penalty spot in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Tamworth and may be rewarded with a start.

Lewis Walker could be the player to drop out, but Ardley will not overly tinker with his side on the back of their continued encouraging form.

Taylor may revert back to a 4-4-2 formation for this game, with Bradley Stevenson an option to replace John Bostock.

Jordan Tunnicliffe could come back into the centre of defence, while 20-year-old Tyler Bruck will be hoping for an opportunity after his recent double against Hednesford.

Woking possible starting lineup: Jaaskelainen; Hinds, Odusina, Mazionis, Chicksen; Ward, Andrews, Gorman, Beautyman; Morias, Walker

Solihull Moors possible starting lineup: Walker; Clarke, Whitmore, Morrison, Oakley; Tipton, Wells-Morrison, Bowen, Osborne; Stevens, Holman

We say: Woking 1-2 Solihull Moors

With Taylor still searching for his first notable win at Solihull, Woking will view this as an ideal opportunity to make progress up the standings. Nevertheless, we are backing Solihull to finally find some form and get three points on the board to kick-start their playoff bid.
