Sochaux leapfrog Valenciennes with victory

Valenciennes replace Sochaux at the bottom of Ligue 1 after losing to their relegation rivals on Saturday.

Sochaux moved off the bottom of the Ligue 1 table and above Valenciennes with a 2-0 victory on Saturday night.

Two goals in quick succession from Cedric Bakambu and Carlao earned the hosts their first win of the season at Stade Bonal.

It was the home side who went ahead in the 12th minute. Roy Contout was freed down the right touchline and he swept a low cross to the far post that was tapped home by Bakambu.

Sochaux doubled their lead just six minutes later when Rafael Dias's corner from the left was headed into the far corner by Carlao at the near post.

The two sides swap places in the table following the result, with 19th-placed Sochaux sitting two points clear of basement club Valenciennes.
