Klaas-Jan Huntelaar: Schalke 04 "too careless" against Maribor

Schalke captain Klaas-Jan Huntelaar claims that his team "declined" after only managing a draw against Champions League Group G opponents Maribor.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has insisted that his Schalke 04 side were "too careless" after failing to beat Maribor at home in the Champions League.

The Royal Blues captain scored a second-half equaliser to give the Bundesliga side a point, but the Dutchman is adamant that Schalke could have performed better.

Huntelaar is quoted by UEFA.com as saying: "If it was up to us, if we would have played better, we would have won.

"Our start was okay, but then we declined. We dragged ourselves down and were too careless and played too slowly.

"At home we have to win our matches; my goal did not help us to win, so I am very disappointed."

Schalke are tied on two points with Maribor, behind Group G leaders Chelsea.
