New England Revolution pick up narrow win against San Jose Earthquakes

New England Revolution have registered a narrow 2-1 victory over San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, California in the MLS.

The hosts had the game's first chance after just four minutes when A.J. Soares headed wide from Saer Sene's delivery, before Chris Wondolowski and Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi had opportunities in quick succession for San Jose.

Diego Fagundez and Teal Bunbury tested host goalkeeper Jon Busch, who also kept out Lee Nguyen's long-range effort on the half-hour mark.

New England eventually took the lead 10 minutes before the half-time interval when Victor Bernardez inadvertently put the ball into his own net.

San Jose stepped up their game in the second half, as Clarence Goodson, Steven Lenhart and Sam Cronin all had chances before the hour mark.

It was Wondolowski who equalised for Mark Watson's side in the 69th minute when he fired in past Bobby Shuttleworth from inside the box.

However, there was more drama to come in the game as in the third minute of injury time New England scored their second and winning goal, thanks to Nguyen turning home Scott Caldwell's delivery.
