Preview: RKC Waalwijk vs. Fortuna Sittard - prediction, team news, lineups

RKC Waalwijk vs. Sittard - prediction, team news, lineups

RKC Waalwijk host Fortuna Sittard on Wednesday night, with both sides hoping to bounce back from Eredivisie defeats last weekend.

The home side are currently hovering just above the relegation zone, while the visitors could consolidate their place in the top 10 with a victory.

Match preview

RKC Waalwijk's search for a league win continues as they lost their 10th Eredivisie match of the season against PSV Eindhoven last weekend.

Fred Grim's team have struggled to end their run of seven league matches without a win, which has resulted in RKC dropping to 15th in the table, just outside the relegation zone and only three points from safety.

Waalwijk have also found it difficult when playing at home this campaign with their solitary victory at the Mandemakers Stadion coming against VVV-Venlo in early December. Only ADO Den Haag and Emmen, who currently sit below them in the relegation zone, have won fewer home matches this season.

RKC have lost their last two league games against Fortuna Sittard, most recently a 2-1 loss in December, but a win on Wednesday would provide a massive boost for Grim's men in their quest for survival and could move them seven points clear of the bottom three.

Fortuna Sittard came close to securing an impressive point against league leaders Ajax last weekend, but they came up short losing 2-1 on home soil.

Mickael Tirpan's equaliser three minutes into the second half gave Sjors Ultee's side belief that they could cause an upset, however new signing Sebastian Haller scored his second goal for Ajax to earn the visitors all three points.

Fortuna had put together a good run of form prior to Sunday's defeat which saw them claim 16 points from a possible 21 available, scoring 13 goals in the process.

Sittard travel to Waalwjik having won both of their last two matches against them and could move as high as ninth in the table with another victory on Wednesday.

Team News

Waalwijk winger Ola John, who was forced off with an injury against Willem II and who missed the defeat to PSV, remains doubtful for Wednesday's match.

Winger Cyril Ngonge is also doubtful with a knock, but former Newcastle United midfielder Vurnon Anita could be available to feature.

Fortuna Sittard have no injury concerns at present, however striker Sebastian Polter is ruled out after he was shown a straight red card in the defeat to Ajax.

Mats Seuntjens is likely to replace Polter and line up alongside Lisandro Semedo and Emil Hansson in what is set to be an interchanging front three.

RKC Waalwijk possible starting lineup: Lamprou; Gaari, Touba, Meulensteen, Bakari; Tahiri, Azhil, Anita; Sow, Stokkers, Daneels

Fortuna Sittard possible starting lineup: Van Osch; Tirpan, Angha, Janssen, Cox; Rienstra, Flemming, Tekie; Semedo, Seuntjens, Hansson

We say: RKC Waalwijk 1-2 Fortuna Sittard

Both sides are looking to bounce back from league defeats last weekend and even though Waalwijk will be desperate to end their poor run of form, the visitors should have enough quality, even without striker Sebastian Polter, to edge out their opponents and secure the three points on Wednesday.
