Giovanni Trapattoni accuses Shane Long of "idiotic" behaviour

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has labelled West Bromwich Albion forward Shane Long "idiotic" for backtracking on his fitness problems.

The 25-year-old was pulled out of Ireland's squad on Wednesday after complaining of a calf injury, but the frontman claimed after the side's clash with Serbia that he was fit to play.

"He said 'I have pain' and now he says he is fit - that is idiotic," said Trapattoni. "He is no baby."

Meanwhile, Long should be fit to feature in the Baggies' Premier League opener against Liverpool.
