Darron Gibson wants Republic of Ireland return

Everton midfielder Darron Gibson says that he wants to play for the Republic of Ireland again following Giovanni Trapattoni's departure.

Everton midfielder Darron Gibson has revealed that he wants to revive his international career with the Republic of Ireland following Giovanni Trapattoni's departure.

The 25-year-old made himself unavailable for selection after failing to secure a more prominent role within the team during the European Championships in 2012.

However, the Derry-born player is keen to return to the fold after Trapattoni parted company with the Football Association of Ireland last week.

"There were people saying that I didn't deserve to put the green jersey back on, but they don't know what happened and don't know how I felt because I've never spoken about it," The Irish Independent quotes Gibson as saying.

"I've been thinking about this for a long time, but I did not want to disrespect the manager and say anything bad about him. I am ready [to come back] because Trapattoni is gone. If I'm called up, I'll come straight back in."

If selected under the new manager, who is yet to be appointed, Gibson could feature against Germany and Kazakhstan next month.
